Weaver of Life's Fate

Weaver of Life's Fate

You know its time to clean when a spider has woven an intricate web between the kitchen cabinet and the green onions growing in a jar on the counter beneath.

Here's the thing…I like to play more than clean. Motorcycling, hiking, cooking, reading, gardening, watching good movies, hanging out with friends, traveling, and more! Life is just too short not to enjoy all there is to enjoy in this world. Charlie has taught me to let go and have fun.

I also value a clean house. I could hire a housekeeper, but I would rather spend my money on the above activities.

I do clean but less so in the summer months. It is difficult to ride my Harley when it's cold and snowy. Unless you are my husband, who likes to ride year-round (there are exceptions – temps below 20 or snow and ice-covered streets). I prefer warmer weather. Thus I have more time to tend to the interior of my house in the winter months.

Now I don't let my house totally go. I do keep up on the bathroom (mostly) and will occasionally vacuum (when there is enough pet hair in the corners to make a small dog). Dusting is reserved when we can write our names in the dust collected on the shelves. Charlie doesn't seem to care if I clean, or not. And he does not seem inclined to learn how to run the vacuum, use a toilet brush, or pick up a dust rag.

I used to care quite a bit about my house. I still care. But before it was like the cleanliness of it defined me. Which made it stressful. Additionally, if my house wasn't clean, it felt like I was lazy. But when I stop and think about what I do in a day, I know that I am not lazy. For example, today is Saturday, and I have been up since 6:45 am. I have watered the lawn, weeded and deadheaded two of four flower beds, ate breakfast, posted an article, researched how to enhance SEO for Charlie's Widsom, texted friends and family, cleaned the kitchen (my kitchen is typically clean, minus today's friendly spider), cooked vegan pad-thai, ate lunch, baked tofu for dinner tonight, and prepared homemade roasted tomato soup for this week's lunches.

It's now 2:45 pm, and I am contemplating a nap. I suppose I could clean, but I'm kinda tired, and a siesta sounds really, really good. I did remove the spider from my kitchen and put it outside in my garden. It may have a better chance of catching bugs there (I hope!).

As I drift off I will contemplate Spider symbolism:

  • Patience

  • Receptivity

  • Feminine energy

  • Creativity

  • Weaver of life's fate

  • Shadow self, dark aspects of life or personality

Notice it does not say anything about cleaning. I do like the description weaver of life's fate. Free will and choice for me, …which means I will clean another day without guilt or shame.
