Senses of Life

IMG_0638I was in my chiropractor’s office a few days ago and noticed a magazine titled Experience Life. Intrigued by the title, I began to wonder exactly what does “experience life” mean.

I’m fairly certain that each individual experiences life differently.  Even though I may be at a concert with 10,000 other individuals, we each walk away with a different perception of that event.

For me, experiencing life is being in the present and noticing moments with all six senses.  Taking in daily life as well as the big events through taste, touch, sight, sound, smell, and emotion/intuition allows my soul a most rewarding opportunity to understand the human experience.  This means I choose to experience all of life; good and bad.  I have learned how to allow all emotion to flow through my heart without avoiding or numbing out.  I seek to savor the mundane to the exhilarating.  This is an all-inclusive tour (good, bad, mundane, exciting) and I strive to cherish it all.

Life offers a buffet for us to choose from.  I love hiking while others love wine tasting and  yet another loves soaking in a bubble bath.  I love rock and roll, classical, Celtic, jazz, blues, but do not care for country or opera.  I enjoy road trips, as well as sitting on the beach with a bag of cheese puffs, a diet coke, and a good book.  I look forward to wintry days to give myself permission to slow down, cuddle in blanket, and binge watch something new on Netflix or Amazon. I enjoy the summer so I can dig in the dirt and cultivate a beautiful garden, lay in my hammock, explore the Black Hills, ride our Harley’s with my husband, and soak up the wonderful sunshine.

My likes and dislikes have changed over the years.  I yearn for something different now than I did 10 years ago.  Good!  There is more to choose from in life and I like the opportunity for a variety of experiences.  “What’s next” is a fun, exhilarating, and often a hair raising motto in my world.

How do you experience life?
