Soul Nourishing Activities

Give yourself permission to take some time for you!  By nourishing yourself on a daily basis you increase your patience, creativity, and ability to meet the demands of life.

  1. Sit down and eat your very own lunch after you’ve put the kids down for a nap.
  2. Sit down to drink your morning coffee or tea.  Greet the day.
  3. Take a bath with nice smelling soaps, bubbles, essential oils, reading materials, etc
  4. Go for a walk.
  5. Do yoga.
  6. Play loud music and dance.
  7. Every day, write down five things for which you are grateful.
  8. End every day with thoughts of what you liked best about the day.
  9. Institute “silent and solo” time and read something for pleasure while the kids are self-entertaining.
  10. Write in your journal.
  11. Write to a friend.
  12. Call a friend or loved one.
  13. Paint your toenails.
  14. Do a 10-minute “house rescue” before going to bed so that you start the day with a reasonable tidy space.
  15. Set a bedtime for your kids and stick to it so that you have time to yourself and with your spouse.
  16. Make one room your oasis – always tidy, serene, and quiet.
  17. Listen to music.
  18. Sing.
  19. Take a class.
  20. Have one date per week with your partner.  Don’t talk about the kids.
  21. Watch your favorite sitcom.  Record it so that you can watch it whenever it’s right for you.
  22. Go for a drive.
  23. Clean out your dresser and line the drawers with pretty paper and a hankie with your favorite scent on it.
  24. Think of all the things that bring you joy until you FEEL the joy.
  25. Get a new pillow and comfortable sheets.
  26. Make a list of things you’d like to do but consider impractical.  Do them.
  27. Find your favorite scent in a therapeutic grade essential oil and use it often.
  28. Give yourself permission to listen deeply and respond to what you want, without judgment.
  29. Stretch like a dog.
  30. Curl up in the sun like a dog.
  31. Dance with a dog.
  32. Write to yourself.
  33. Meditate.
  34. Make a list of all you’re grateful for and feel gratitude grow.
  35. See the beauty around you.
  36. Laugh out loud.
  37. Write your self-encouraging messages and post them around the house.
  38. Go dancing.
  39. Go ice-skating.
  40. Play an instrument.
  41. Work with clay, beeswax, Sculpey, Playdoh, etc.
  42. Have an evening out with friends.
  43. Go window-shopping or wander the mall.
  44. Play a game.
  45. Snuggle under a warm blanket and read a good novel.
  46. Buy yourself some flowers.
  47. Sit in a spa.
  48. Pet your cat or dog.
  49. Eat a delicious meal.
  50. Go to a movie.
  51. Enjoy the sunrise / sunset.
  52. Take a 15-minute break between work and going home to just breathe.
  53. Smell a beautiful flower.
  54. Walk in a plant nursery.
  55. Garden.
  56. Exercise.
  57. Hike.
  58. Color or paint a picture.
  59. Knit, crochet, or cross-stitch something for yourself.
  60. Sit and quiet your mind and body for 15 minutes twice daily.
  61. Treat yourself to a piece of fabulous dark chocolate.

Spend time learning what nourishes you.  It may not be what others suggest.  If you don’t remember, think of what you enjoyed as a child…wind on your face, soft sheets, giggling at nothing at all, playing in the bath, making up songs, etc.
